Globe Tattoo’s SUPERSURF download cap dropped from 1Gb to 800Mb
I learned only a few weeks ago that Globe Tattoo’s SUPERSURF service has a daily cap of 1Gb. I’m not really complaining, the speed is now bearable and sometimes fast, but I’m just disgusted in the way it’s advertised. They should change the “unlimited” to “super 1GB” or something.
Anyway, I subscribed to Globe Tattoo’s SUPERSURF service yesterday and my connection just stopped working. I’m connected and I know that my usage hasn’t reached 1Gb yet (I wrote a one liner script to total the bytes I downloaded, I use Ubuntu). To confirm it, I rebooted to Windows and checked my dongle if it received any text messages.
I got this text message:
It seems the 1Gb cap is not small enough…
By the way, if someone has an idea on how to read text messages from a Huawei dongle in Ubuntu, I’ll be thankful for any tips 
UPDATE – 12/14/2010:
It seems Globe has finally changed the confirmation message for SUPERSURF (well, for SUPERSURF50 at least). No mention of “unlimited” anymore, it was changed to “for moderate use only”. I think this is a good start for a more “transparent” service
By the way, I finally figured it out. I can now send/receive SMS in Ubuntu, see my post about it if you want to know more.

same here…naka experience din ako ng ganyan..kinausap ko mismo yung supervisor nila..i rereport daw nila yung reklamo at mga suggestions ko..pinag mumura ko nga eh sa sobrang asar ko…ok na sana noon globe tattoo kaso ginawa nila 1day = 1gb tapos nireklamo ko na yun noon and suddenly mas pina init pa ulo ko dahil ginawa nila from 1gb to 800mb…ilan kaya sunod?500mb??hindi man lng nila sinasabi sa customer nila kung ano limitations ng globe tatoo prepaid.yung GLOBE FAIR USE POLICY nga nila hirap hanapin sa website nila..kaya now im planning to switch to smart bro or sun broadband…d nga umaabot ng 2mbps ang speed ng globe tattoo kahit 4 bars HSDPA ang signal ko..d aabot ng 100 meters ang layo ko sa cellsite ng globe…kaya imposible na bumaba sa 3g signal ko..taeng globe tatoo…

I also got the same message so I went to their website to investigate.
As far as I know, they are only doing it until they have users who are very excessive in usage in their network. Limiting excessive usage by a few people gives lots more bandwidth to hundreds of others who are also paying the same amount for the service. I read this on Globe’s website. So I think its not wrong, they want ALL their subscribers to get what they paid for. 1GB or 800mb usage naman is worth a lot more than P50 i’m sure in terms of the costs to their network, so i wouldnt say they cheated on us. Rather, i think the way all the telcos are moving towards this Fair Use Policy is really for the benefit of the vast majority whose services are slowed down by the few who use up the bandwidth and slows everyone else down. Ok naman since for me my speed went significantly faster ever since they started this Fair Use thing. I heard Smart also has, and Sun, hindi lang communicated At least pala Globe has on their website. I dont think they should receive all this backlash for being the more honest one.
as I’ve said, I’m not really complaining, speed is not an issue anymore when I’m using the GLOBE tattoo, it’s more responsive now, compared before.
But maybe, just maybe, GLOBE can be more transparent. Why not mention the 800MB cap in the SMS message once a person subscribe to the SUPERSURF service?
They are very unfair to their subscribers. They are using the word “UNLIMITED” but you limited to 800 MB. Is there anyone in the globe company know the meaning of the word UNLIMITED!!!…….. I am so disappointed with globe.

..madali lang yan..ichange niyo lang ang mismong date ng computer at marereset rin ang download cap ng globe tatoo..example: umabot na ng 600mb ang dinownload mo sa araw na ito..kung march 23 2010 ngayon, ichange mo ito sa march 24, o 25 and so on, kahit anong date basta hindi ung current. pag ginawa mo ito, magiging 0kb ang downloaded data ng broadband mo…
